PRS completes the longest length of in-place rehabilitation of a lead drinking water service pipe in the UK
Project:
- High Road, Bushey Heath, London
- 15 meter road crossing
- Lead pipe had previously been replaced by the property owner
- Affinity Water’s standard practice is to replace or rehabilitate their side
- PRS was engaged as the road has multiple other utilities within it so moling was not an option
- Open cut would have caused major disruptions in the area due to a cross roads controlled by 4-way lights that would have to be taken out of service and temporary traffic management put in place
- Traditional pipe replacement methods would involve between 3 and 4 days of disruption
- This type of project would also require major noticing with highways
- Prior to work commencing the property had a 12 litre per minute flow rate
Results:
- PRS completed the project with:
- no highway excavation
- no road closures
- no traffic disruption
- limited customer downtime
- 2-hour return to service resin
- One day for rehabilitation
- Post customer flow rate 15+ litres per minute
- Lead levels brought into compliance
