Problem
A multi-story block of council flats was experiencing leaks in the copper and PVC drain lines that ran from the kitchen sink, bathroom basin and bath to the main waste riser. Branch lines were typically 1.5” and 2” ID with multiple bends.
Attempts at conventional repairs and partial pipe replacement proved very difficult, hard to access and involved long periods of disruption, mess, dust and noise associated with the significant cut outs and repairs to the structure and fabric of the building.
Council staff sought alternative approaches and found several providers that boasted various non-destructive solutions involving in-situ repairs.
Trials were established for each provider to repair the leaks in-place, provide long term leak protection to the inside of the branch lines, limit down time to within an “ 8am -5pm” day and minimize any cutting into the building. The trial incorporated a section of the riser and branch lines located on the upper floors of the building, adding to the challenge.
Solution
Only the Pipe Restoration Services (PRS) team using the patented ePIPE process and resins was able to successfully complete the trial as per specification.
Tony Hanks, PRS General Manager, commented: “Properly understanding the problem, the client’s needs, providing a skilled team and using the right technology is crucial to the successful completion of a project like this.
“With the right approach and technology, customers were enjoying fully functional and non-leaking pipes within a few hours.”
